EDISON – More than $1,500 has been reported stolen from the Edison VFW Memorial Post 3117 on National Road.

According to police, the burglary was reported March 26, but it is believed to have occurred in the overnight hours of March 25 into March 26.

Police said there is no known point of entry to the building located at 53 National Road.

Inside the building, about $400 was taken from a cash register, $30 from a gaming machine, and $1,100 from an ATM machine that was damaged during the burglary.

The burglary is under investigation. No arrests have been made, police said.

Ken Durkin, VFW quartermaster, said the gaming machine was heavily damaged and replacing it would cost about $6,200. Fixing the cash register would cost a couple hundred dollars more, he said.

He believes entry was gained by punching a hole in a section of a wall, and the wall will also need to be repaired and repainted, which will add to the VFW’s costs.

“We’re going to take a hit on this thing,” said Durkin, who handles the VFW’s finances.
